Spring may still be a month away but Mother Nature appears to be giving Montreal and Southern Quebec a sneak preview this week.
A warm front heading our way from the Central United States is expected to cause temperatures to rise between five and 12 degrees until Wednesday.
With the mild air will come cloudy skies and rain, lots of rain.
Environment Canada is expecting between 20 and 30 millimetres from Monday evening through Wednesday. In some areas rainfall amounts could reach 40 millimetres.
The conditions to start this week could cause trouble on the roads and for some home owners who are still dealing with last spring's flooding.
"The rain combined with the runoff from the melting of snow could cause localized flooding" Environment Canada said in its Special Weather Statement.
The forecast has caused the Southern Quebec Severe Weather Network to issue a flood watch and advisory for a large area around the island of Montreal.
"Ice damming on rivers is likely" wrote Mark Sirois, an IT professional and amateur weather forecaster.
If you're not sure if you should trust Mark, know that his predictions are so accurate that many of the province's weather experts follow him, including CTV Montreal weather presenter Lise McAuley. Sirois also writes for Harrowsmith Almanac.
At least one municipality has taken the warning to heart, with the city of Dorval closely monitoring storm sewers in critical areas in order to ensure optimal water drainage.
Gravel bags will be available to residents in flood watch zones, free of charge; starting Monday at 8:00 A.M. Bags can be requested by calling 514 633-4046.
