No one was injured in a collision between a Via Rail passenger train and an 18-wheel truck in Riviere des Prairies on Monday morning.
It happened at around 9:15 at a level crossing near the corner of St. Jean Baptiste and Maurice-Duplessis Blvds. The big rig, belonging to a driving school, stalled on the tracks.
Moments later, a Via Rail train slammed into it, tearing the cab away from the rest of the truck.
The two people in the truck — the student driver and the instructor — managed to get out the truck before the impact.
The train, bound for the Abitibi region and Jonquiere, was carrying 20 passengers. None of them were hurt, though they all had to be put on buses for the next part of their journey.
The crash affected AMT commuter service on the Mascouche line. The 12:15 train leaving Central Station — Train 1203 — has been cancelled.
