Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante says the city's widely hated quota-system for traffic tickets is finished.
Plante says her government is also putting a stop to lucrative performance bonuses for bosses - linked to lower-level officers reaching their ticket targets.
Motorists aren't getting a free-ride though. City staff predict Montreal will collect $12-million dollars more from traffic and parking violations this year than it did in 2017.
The union representing police officers had been calling for an end to the quotas for years, but previous mayors had officially denied a system even existed.
It remained the subject of rumour among frustrated motorists who suspected police were trapping drivers primarily to collect revenue for City Hall.
After winning office in November, Montreal's new government confirmed the system was very real indeed.
