The City of Montreal is about to unleash a storm of civil lawsuits against companies, individuals and former politicians who participated in a massive corruption scheme to defraud taxpayers of millions of dollars.
The Journal de Montreal says the suits are targeting companies and individuals who were involved in setting prices for government contracts.
The newspaper says most of the big companies that part during the 20 years of price fixing have settled with the city thru the Voluntary Reimbursement Program, but those being targeted with civil suits did not and include many construction companies and individuals including former City of Montreal politicians and employees.
The first lawsuits are expected to be filed soon but others may not happen for a few months.
There is no indication how much money the city is trying to recover.
