Montreal's city council meeting looked a little different Monday.
The Quebec flag was added to the council chamber, the room where the executive committee meets (Peter McGill room), and to the flag poles outside City Hall.
The Fleurdelisé is now displayed along with the Canadian and Montreal flags to the right of the Speaker's chair.
Mayor Valerie Plante was all smiles about being the first mayor to comply with the provincial flag law, introduced in the 1960s.
"I'm proud, because it's something that no Mayor's before have decided to take into consideration," she told CTV Montreal. "In city council it will be the same thing as outside, so we will have the three flags which is the Montreal one, the Quebec one and the Canadian one."
According to Quebec's flag law, "as the national emblem of Quebec, the flag shall be displayed at official events and in the places, cases and circumstances determined by regulation of the government."
Not only must it be displayed, but the flag is to be given prominence when displayed with other flags, putting in the centre, with the Canadian flag on the left and the municipal flag on the right.
The change in flag policy comes after complaints by two citizens.
