A Montreal businessman is buying a well-known Quebec magazine.
Alexandre Taillefer is buying it from Rogers Communications, which announced earlier this year it was closing its French-language magazines L'actualité, Chatelaine, and Loulou, and issued layoff notices to dozens of employees.
It has since decided to keep Chatelaine operational, and has sold L'actualité.
There's word Taillefer, whose private-equity company, XPND Capital, also owns a significant amount of stock in Voir Communications, publisher of the alternative bi-weekly Voir and its annual restaurant guide, will renegotiate the employment contracts for the magazine's 20 employees.
The magazine, which has existed for 40 years, belonged to Rogers Media since 1994.
Taillefer's Mishmash Média says the publication will, among other things, continue to be published in printed form.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
