Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante will play host to the Environment Minister Isabelle Melançon and Saint-Lambert Mayor Pierre Brodeur at city hall Monday afternoon in an attempt to resolve a long standing irritant.
They will be discussing ways to reduce the amount of noise produced by the outdoor concerts such as Osheaga and Heavy MTL at Parc Jean Drapeau every summer.
Montreal and Saint-Lambert have been clashing in court over the issue in recent years, but there is hope that with new administrations in both cities following the elections last fall, the two sides will be able to reach common ground.
Saint-Lambert's Pierre Brodeur says part of the problem in the past were the former Mayors of the two cities who both dug their heels-in on the issue.
He says Saint Lambert has already spent a million dollars on court action to try to stop the concerts and former Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre issued a edict prohibiting anyone from his administration to communicate with officials in Saint-Lambert.
Brodeur has since suspended the legal action saying the city can't afford the cost.
The festival venue at Parc Jean Drapeau is currently undergoing a $70 million dollar renovation and expansion.
Brodeur suggests that simply orienting the stage to face away from the South Shore would alleviate the situation.
