One of the unexpected consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and trying to keep as clean as possible: more drains are being clogged and some plumbers and companies are getting busier as a result.
Sanivac, a company based in Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot said in a statement it's getting a lot more calls from municipalities to clean their sewage water pumping stations - that's because they're getting blocked with used disinfecting wipes and latex gloves: two things that should not be flushed down the toilet, said spokesperson Carole-Ann Kelly.
St. Laurent company Mr. Drain tells yourstory@cjad.com that the numerous self-isolations and the three week imposed break for most households could be contributing to blocked pipes.
"More people, more toilet paper, more problems," said employee Max, adding they're working around the clock like crazy.
"Usually springtime is always busy but this time we're doing about 15 emergency calls after hours so I want to say we doubled our calls."
Sanivac said they're also prepared for more similar calls.
