For the first time in more than 40 years, the iconic 'sun card' you have to show every time you visit your doctor's office will get a fresh new look.
There'll still be a sun on it, but the colors will be a lot lighter than on the old ones.
Quebec's health insurance board, the RAMQ, is using the change to introduce new security features to make the card harder to reproduce. For instance, if the card is placed under a blacklight you'll be able to see a bird flying past the sun on the front, or the image of a heart monitor on the back.
The cards will be gradually phased in over the next four years, beginning this week.
The health insurance card was first introduced in 1970 by Robert Bourassa's first health minister, Gerald Castonguay. The current sunset design was introduced in 1976.
