If you found yourself enjoying a toasty warm home during the colder than average month of November, Hydro-Quebec has a bit of a warning for you.
In hopes of preparing customers for any potential shock, Hydro-Quebec released a statement Tuesday saying most homes and businesses (using electricity for heating) will see their November bill be about eight per cent higher than last year.
Last month saw colder temperatures than the same period in 2017. In fact the lowest extreme was more than six degrees colder than last year and 14 degrees colder than in 2016.
The math checks out: colder temperatures outside = using more energy to heat your home inside.
"Even if you don’t turn up your thermostats, your bill will be higher because you will use more electricity to keep your home at the temperature you are used to," the Crown Corporation said.
Just how much more you'll pay for ol' Man Winter showing up early this year all depends on your home. Residents in a three bedroom apartment should expect to pay about $3 more for last month, while customers with an average single-family home will likely find an additional $18 on their November bill.
