Your information about fentanyl could be worth up to $2,000.
The Quebec chapter of Crime Stoppers has announced a reward for tips that lead to arrests or seizures in connection with the powerful drug fentanyl.
The opioid is described as being 40 times more powerful than heroin, and 100 times more toxic than morphine. Authorities have blamed the drug for hundreds of deaths across Canada, including over 500 fatal overdoses in British Columbia in 2016.
Christian Richard of Crime Stoppers describes the call for tips as a preventative measure.
'Fentanyl is a drug that is expanding across Canada. You can't necessarily say it's arrived in Quebec, but it's at our doors," he explained, pointing to cases where people were found to have to be high on fentanyl in Ottawa. Police busted two fentanyl labs outside of Montreal in February, and the first Quebec lab believed to be producing the drug was raided in the Eastern Townships in December .
"We need information about fentanyl. If you know of a drug seller, or a drug laboratory, if you have information, call us," urged Richard.
