With the number of tragic endings to tales involving public pools this summer, we were due for a happy one.
On Saturday, as high temperatures continued to beat down many parts of the province, the Saint-Joseph public pool in Drummondville was packed. Estimates say there were at least 50 people in the pool around 3:30 P.M.
While everyone was having fun, a 10-year-old boy managed to leave his father's side as he was tending to his other son, who is 6-years-old.
Moments later that young boy was spotted at the bottom of the pool's deep end.
Lifeguard Marianne Boucher saw the boy and dove right in. She toldĀ TVA she didn't hesitate for a second and went straight to the bottom.
The 17-year-old pulled the boy from the water and began to perform lifesaving maneuvers, saying all she could think about was saving him.
The other lifeguards on staff called 9-1-1 and evacuated the pool.
Paramedics arrived not long after and rushed the boy to hospital. Thanks to Marianne and her team's flawless execution of the rescue operation, not only is the boy still alive but he is expected to make a full recovery.
