A few dozen people went skating at the Bonsecours Bassin in the Old Port in a -35 windchill on Thursday.
The cold didn't deter these ice skaters.
"It's a beautiful day to go out and be a Canadian," said one of the skaters, who called himself Ivan.
"It's fun, it's so much, you need to do something so winter doesn't get over you," said Josée Benoit. "It's only December, how are we going to make it?
For one skater Anne-Laure, the cold was bearable, but if that changed she said she would get warmth in the chalet.
"There's place to get warm if we're too cold, so we can try and if it's too cold then we can come back," she said.
The Tretner family visiting from New Jersey said they were surprised it was this cold, but they made the best of it and went skating anyway.
"There's nothing that really keeps us from going outside," Werner Tretner said. "We love the outdoors, we're adventurers."
He did, however, suggest keeping warm for those heading out for activities.
"It's a little bit colder than normal, but it's a great day to spend outside as well," he said.
Environment Canada is suggesting for those who will be outside to cover up well and take breaks to get warm.
The extreme cold snap is expected to last until the New Year.
