Several women's groups are demanding the Quebec government come out with a policy on how it will end sexual exploitation against women.
They say it was promised for last spring, but they've seen nothing yet.
The government is saying it needs more information before it can do anything, but Eliane Legault-Roy, with the group La Clé, says the government has been studying for years — and now, it's time for some action.
"Even outside of the women's groups there is also the RCMP... They are also producing knowledge about sexual exploitation, trafficking, sexual aggressions and all that stuff.
The government doesn't have the excuse of not knowing. The knowledge is there," she said.
The group staged a protest in downtown Montreal on Thursday, saying the government has acted, but only in very small ways — by helping girls living in group homes that are believed to have been lured away by pimps, and investigating alleged assaults against indigenous women in Val D'Or. But the group says a broader approach is needed.
"We really just need to go to the next step, which is acting," said Legault-Roy.
