Crown and defence lawyers in the trial of a 43 year old woman who has pleaded guilty to a charge of infanticide in the 2016 death of her newborn have issued a joint recommendation that she be sentenced to 20 months of house arrest followed by three years of probation with the stipulation that she undergo a pregnancy test every six months for the duration of her sentence.
The woman was convicted in the death of her infant daughter who was found with stab wounds to the head in a bag in the bathroom of the family home in Côte-des-neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grace by the woman's husband.
She died in hospital days later.
Although the woman was described as an excellent mother to the couple's three other children, the recommendation would also require her to continue psychiatric treatment.
The judge will render a decision on Thursday.
