A 41-year-old woman is being treated in hospital after she was shot at an east-end depanneur during what appeared to be an armed robbery gone wrong.
The shooting happened at around noon on Tuesday at the Tabagie Place Frontenac located in a strip mall near the Frontenac metro station on Ontario St. near Du Havre St.in the Ville Marie borough.
Police say the woman was shot in the upper body and was conscious when taken to hospital. Police say she appears to have been working at the store. Another woman was at the scene and treated for shock.
The suspect is described as a man in his 40s and wearing a mask at the time. He fled on foot and escaped into the Frontenac metro. Poilce say witnesses tell them he made off with an undetermined amount of money.
A canine unit and several police officers took part in the ground search near the mall which was partially cordoned off.
Police say they have several photos and videos from witnesses of the suspect and they will be also checking surveillance video.
