Police officers directing traffic because of all that Montreal construction is not only costing a lot more financially, but emotionally as well.
Costs have soared from four-million dollars in 2014 to more than 12-million dollars, so far, in 2016.
Police are oftening doing traffic duty after their regular shifts on overtime.
CTV's Caroline Van Vlaardigen reported it proved to be too much for one particular woman.
"Montreal police do admit there's a growing frustration out there, so much so that last week a pedestrian actually punched a police officer, who was directing traffic, in the face. That pedestrian is now facing assault charges", said Van Vlaardigen.
The opposition Projet Montreal said the practice of cops directing traffic is a waste of money and police officers' talents and abilities.
Police argued the highway safety code doesn't allow civilians to do the job.
