This milder-than-average fall we've been enjoying in Montreal is expected to come to a swift and messy end in the early morning hours of Friday.
Clouds are expected to sweep into the Montreal area Thursday afternoon, and we're expecting rain showers to begin by around 8 o'clock in the evening.
And then, a quick blast of winter.
A cold front coming up from the Great Lakes is expected to bring strong winds of up to 80 kilometres an hour, and rain showers giving way to snow flurries as the temperature plummets to a low of -13.
We could see about five centimetres of snow by the morning rush hour, and during the changeover from rain to snow there is the possibility of freezing rain and/or ice pellets, which could make for a slippery, messy commute.
And, of course, it could be a lot trickier if you don't have your snow tires on, which most people don't at this time of year.
There won't be much of a daytime warmup, either — Friday's high is expected to climb no higher than -7, with windchills expected to stay in the mid-minus teens.
Meanwhile, if you have to fly to Toronto anytime after Thursday afternoon, you might want to check on your flight — the winds and snow squalls associated with the cold front are expected to hit southern Ontario by the afternoon.
The Toronto area is expecting around 15 centimetres of snow, and a travel advisory is in place throughout southern Ontario.
Temperatures are expected to gradually climb back to normal values throughout the weekend.
