From now on, you won't be able to smoke at all on the grounds of Vanier College in St. Laurent — even if you're in a car parked in one of its parking lots.
Vanier announced that their campus-wide smoking ban took effect on Monday. It applies to all forms of smoking — including vaping.
"Obviously our main clientele here are students who are between 16 and 18, and that's when statistics show a lot of students start smoking, at the end of their high school years or at the beginning of their CEGEP years," says Vanier College spokesperson Darren Becker.
He suggests there are also adding services for students who wish to quit smoking.
The move to ban smoking was announced last fall, as part of the school's efforts to promote healthier lifestyles. Also last fall, the school banned the sales of fried foods and sugary drinks.
