Theatre season is in full swing! The Centaur unveils its season opener, Choir Boy, about a gay music director trying to nail a job at a preppy elite school for African-American boys. Written by Tarell Alvin McCraney, who won an Oscar for Moonlight, and with acapella gospel music by Montreal-based Floydd Ricketts. The music continues over at the Segal, which launched Once this week. The Tony-winning musical is inspired by the 2007 indie sleeper hit about a busker and a flower seller who hit it off. And revelation Donna-Michelle St Bernard continues her one-woman rap and spoken word piece about being black and speaking truth to power: Sound of the Beast finishes this weekend at the MAI.
