Join your best friends Anna and Elsa, Flynn, Moana and (my fave) Belle and more at Disney on Ice: Dare to Dream at the Bell Centre. There are several shows this weekend, and you should check ahead to see which ones are in English and in French. Get your tickets here.
Montreal's annual puppet party, the Festival des Casterliers, brings a variety of marionettes acts (for kids and adults) from Montreal and around the world to various venues. There is Macbeth Muet, which features two silent actor-puppeteers performing the Scottish play with object theatre. (There is a lot of blood!) And from Bolton-East, L'Allumette is a story about a little girl, an old woman and a cabaret act - set inside a piano. And the sexy, scandalous Ronnie Burkett performs his acclaimed The Daisy Theatre show at the Centaur. (They just added new shows later this month!)
Elsewhere in the theatre world:
In Rendez-Vous with Home, Djennie Laguerre tells the story of two sisters who return to Haiti to bury a man they barely know... their father. This solo show works in Haitian oral storytelling with traditional percussion backing, and is presented by Black Theatre Workshop at the MAI, with shows until March 11.
The good people at the Lakeshore Light Opera are putting on Gilbert & Sullivan's The Mikado at Lakeside Academy Theatre in Lachine. Check out the tickets online, or call 514-804-4900. Proceeds go towards the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation. Continues until March 17th.
Take advantage of the freshly-fallen snow by signing for a morning snowshoe excursion on Mount-Royal. Hot chocolate is provided, as are the shoes! Reserve online, or book your own group.
And the Habs aren't so hot, but I can guarantee the Canadiennes will be warmed up to face their rivals Calgary Inferno with a double double matchup at the Complexe Sportif Bell in Brossard. Saturday's 5:30pm game is their annual 'Pink in the Rink' match, a fundraiser for breast cancer research.
"The Scandinavian Mitch Hedberg" Ismo Leikola comes to The Comedy Nest this weekend. There's also a very strong edition of Sunday Funday coming up, with Darren Henwood, Aba Atlas and Kris Dulgar. 8pm.
And in the sexiest city in North America, there is plenty of nudity to ogle at this weekend...
Creative impresario Sherwin Tjia's The Strip Spelling Bee at MainLine Theatre on Friday: here, contestants are presented with a lot of hard, long words and have to take off an item when they (inevitably) fail. Showtime is 9pm, and contestant signup is at 9:30pm. The theme is Insane Gown Posse... so expect lot of fabric and feathers!
Live out your singing stripper dream with Bareoke, Saturday night at Café Cleopatra. It's a montly karaoke where you get to strip and sing at the same time!
And the magical world of Harry Potter is in the inspiration behind Saturday's Fantastic Breasts and Where to Flaunt Them: AMagical Creatures Burlesque! I'm imagining centaurs, mermen and women, hippogriffs and more at the Wiggle Room. Performers include: Mary Sisuei, Queeny Ives and Honey Dynamite.
