Go around the world with One More Time: A Tribute to Daft Punk Friday night at Club Soda. This 'tribute band' dons chrome helmets and lit-up suits while paying homage to Daft Punk's classics, along with their own remixes.
The immensely popular Aura returns to light up Notre-Dame Basilica in Old Montreal. Moment Factory, the Montreal outfit that kits out megastar concerts and the Super Bowl, illuminates one of Montreal's iconic houses of workship. Guests are invited to wander the sanctuary and look at a few displays, then sit down for a 20-minute music-and-light extravangza. Catching it this week, it struck me as a laser show meets the Great Hall at Hogwarts, as well as somethign suitable for family outings with people of all ages. The show does sell out, so be sure to lock in your tickets.
Feeling frazzled by the holidays? For something a bit more low-key, how about Poetry and Tea at the Phi Centre? A dozen creators who have visited the art space recently recorded poems for this video experience. The luminaries include Camille Poliquin of Milk & Bone reading I crashed my bike last night, I was drunk, by Jay Winston Ritchie, and diva Peaches recites her poem, Vaginoplasty. Merry Montreal has renamed Place Jacques Cartier 'Nordic Square' just for the holidays! Grab a hot drink, stand next to an open fire and have a look at 'shimmering light prisms' and a giant, lit-up moose named Bernard. The set up is a bit smaller than past Christmas villages at Quartier des spectacles, but it's still a lovely way to get outside, pose with a crystal will sipping on something warm and delicious. Prepare to be wowed at Sami Hajjar's Dream Land, a wild and inventive display of Christmas lighting in Ville St Laurent that seems to get bigger with each passing year. Sami has expanded to 250,000 lights this season, up from 100,000, and he is paying homage to Minnie and Mickey Mouse, Frozen, Paw Patrol, Minions, Snoopy and Star Wars.
