A new luxury sedan being offered up by General Motors might have more than a little trouble being taken seriously in French Quebec, because of its name.
The 2018 Buick LaCrosse Avenir is expected to arrive in dealerships early next year, and while non-francophones might well focus on its new luxury features, francophones seem to be having trouble getting past the name.
That's because LaCrosse is slang for pleasuring oneself, or doing a bad turn on someone else. The phrase 'LaCrosse Avenir' can also mean 'the rip-off to come.'
Buick's LaCrosse line of high-end sedans was introduced in 2005. Initially, GM sold the car in Canada as the Allure, but reverted to LaCrosse a few years later, as the recession of the late 2000s hit its stride.
