Montreal's new police chief says he's eager to get started.
Sylvain Caron, who spoke with CTV, says he brings an outsider’s view on the once-turbulent force.
Among other things, he said the force will continue to work with sex crime victims to reassure them it's safe and necessary for victims to contact police.
Decades of internal management divisions led to the replacement of controversial director Philippe Pichet by former SQ chief Martin Prud’homme in 2017 in a bid to restore confidence within the department.
The force has also had to deal with accusations of systemic racial profiling and introduced its strategy earlier in the week, based on prevention.
"It's a fine line between the perception of profiling, and ensuring safety for Montrealers,” said Caron.
“Are we always perfect? Probably not. That's why we have a plan to prevent it", said the new top cop.
Caron, who was sworn in on Wednesday, spent the first half of his career running the Sorel police department, before rising to the top echelons of the Surete du Quebec.
