Some dog owners in Westmount say they are concerned that the newly renovated King George Park might be dangerous for their dog's health.
The pet owners say they're worried about all the sand in the dog run and say when the dogs chase one another, they kick up the sand and produce a large cloud of dust that causes both dogs and humans to cough.
In response to their concerns, the City of Westmount commissioned a study. Traces of silica in the air were reportedly found but experts believe that short-term exposure is not dangerous for healthy dogs and humans, although it isn't ideal.
One dog owner at the park told CJAD 800 that he enjoys visiting King George Park and dismissed concerns, saying his dog doesn't spend long periods of time there.
The city said it is looking for new solutions, and is continuing to study what other alternatives might be best for the park, and its four-legged visitors.
