A weeklong campaign to remind Quebec motorists to buckle-up indicates that a lot of work still needs to be done to get the message out.
The Automobile Insurance Board (SAAQ) says that police patrols issued an average of 310 tickets a day between the 31st of March and 6th of April.
Despite the fact that nearly 2200 tickets were handed out the SAAQ says the seatbelt use rate has reached 98.1% of drivers on the roads.
The law making seatbelt use mandatory came into effect in 1976.
The fine for failing to use a seatbelt ranges from$80 to $100 plus 3 demerit points.
