The Quebec Transport ministry is taking it up another notch with the closure this weekend of major downtown-bound highway ramps.
As of Friday 11:30PM until 5AM Monday, the ramp from eastbound Highway 20 to eastbound Highway 720 will be completely closed.
The ramp from southbound Highway 15 to eastbound Highway 720 will also be completely closed from midnight Friday until 7:30AM Saturday, and from 10PM Saturday until 5AM Monday.
Beginning Monday November 21st, all four lanes of eastbound 720 between the Turcot Interchange and the Guy Street exit will be closed until 2018.
Traffic will be directed onto the first two lanes of the new eastbound Route 136, and the new Exit 2 for Atwater off eastbound Route 136 will open.
Transport officials say extensive dismantling work will be done weekends on eastbound Highway 720 until spring 2017.
They say beginning next month, 12 to 15 complete closures of Route 136 will be required.
In a statement Friday, Transport officials suggest car pooling and public transit as ways to travel downtown over what promises to be an exceptionally difficult time on Montreal roads.
