A woman in Laval is lucky to be alive after a short dip in the Riviere-des-Prairies overnight.
A friend called 911 around 1:30 a.m. after the 41-year-old slipped and fell in the river around 62 Ave. in Laval, a fire department captain said at the scene.
The woman was unable to return to shore and was carried by the current for several minutes.
Meantime, firefighters from Laval and Montreal were scouring the water in boats looking for her.
They came upon her in the middle of the river, waiting for a rescue on a rock near the bridge for Autoroute 15.
Paramedics treated her at the scene, finding no hypothermia or injuries requiring hospitalization—something the Laval fire captain could only summarize by saying it was "good news for us."
