A young Montreal woman has come forward saying she was assaulted by a man who claimed to be her Uber driver.
Marie-Philippe Maurais shared her story on Facebook.
She said she ordered an Uber after having a few drinks with friends. Just a couple of minutes later a car pulled up outside the bar. Maurais asked the driver has there to pick her up, to which he said yes.
From there Maurais said it did not take her long to realize something was wrong.
The driver asked her for her address, information her actual Uber driver would have been provided via the app. From there Maurais said the man repeatedly tried to touch her and himself until she managed to get out of the car.
A complaint was filed with the Montreal police department.
Kayla Whaling, a spokeswoman for Uber, told CTV Montreal there are security measures within the app to keep passengers safe and prevent these tips of situations from happening.
"You're provided information on the make and model of the car, the driver's name their photo, and we encourage everyone to confirm all that information before getting in the car," Whaling said. "Individuals posing as a rideshare driver may look for people standing outside, you can request your ride inside, then you're notified when your car arrives."
