Quebec's 2-week construction holiday is about to begin, but the SQ will be busy keeping an eye on highways, including an eye in the sky, watching from a plane.
Police say, as a result, a sense of frustration and road rage both drop.
"From the air, officers look for drivers crossing solid lines, trying to cut ahead of others in traffic. The annual construction holiday begins tomorrow, (Friday), and 175-thousand workers will head out on vacation" reported CTV's Derek Conlon.
The message from police is no different than it's been in the past.
"To be safe on the road. We want everybody to leave home happy, go on vacation, go visit Gaspesie, go everywhere you want, but come back safely", said SQ captain Paul Leduc.
"To make sure we can do that we'll put more cops on the road. They'll be all throughout the province. We'll double, if we can, the presence on the road", added Leduc.
Speeding, impaired driving and distracted driving from texting are still the main causes of road accidents and fatalities, added Conlon.
Quebec roads have recently seen a downward trend in the number of deaths during the yearly construction pause.
