A couple hundred protesters took to the streets of downtown Montreal Thursday night for the annual anti-police brutality march.
The crowd gathered at Lafontaine Park shortly before 8:00 P.M.
Organizers spoke out against cases where Quebec police officers used excessive force, in particular against marginalized individuals and communities.
"As a queer person it's really hard to watch these kinds of abuses happen against marginalized communities in general. These things shouldn't be happening. There should be recourses against these kinds of abuses of power and this is one way we can show our support for victims, "Jeff Helberg told CTV Montreal.
Following the speeches the crowd made its way south, through the Gay Village.
Officers stepped in at about 8:30 P.M. when some windows of businesses on Ste-Catherine St. were smashed.
Police in riot gear used tear gas and pepper spray in order to push the crowd back. Some protesters began launching firecrackers and other projectiles at the officers.
Three officers and one civilian suffered minor injuries.
Police arrested three people for various offences, including one for an armed assault on a police officer.
