A Montreal family says police are not doing enough to solve the case of their missing cat — even though the alleged catnapping was caught on security video.
Robert Bernabei says the incident happened on his front balcony at around 3 a.m. on the morning of Thursday, Nov. 24. The camera catches a woman in socks snatching their 20-pound black cat Blacky and made off with him.
He says in the early morning hours, a woman in an SUV pulled up to the house, got out, and rang Bernabei's doorbell.
"She came to the door, rang the doorbell at approximately 3 o'clock in the morning," he says. "I mean, we sort of fell off of our beds. We go to the window to look at the window, and we see the car taking off."
He says the stolen cat is just the latest item in a long list of things that have been stolen from the home — including pots, lawn ornaments, and even a car.
A neighbor caught the incident on tape, and Bernabei says police should try to zoom in on what he believes was the thief's licence plate. But, he says, police told him they didn't see anything.
The theft is classified as a theft under $5,000.
