Municipal election campaigns officially got underway across the province on Friday morning.
Here in Montreal, Mayor Denis Coderre was at City Hall bright and early to file his official papers, as was his main challenger, Projet Montreal's Valerie Plante.
Coderre hopes to campaign on his accomplishments over the last four years, his so-called pit-bull ban, the city's 375th anniversary celebrations and legacy, and the city's improved credit rating.
Valerie Plante, meantime, is hoping to capitalize on anger over the dangerous-dog regulations, and the lavish spending on the anniversary. She also wants to improve traffic in the city and is committed to gender parity.
A third mayoralty candidate, Coalition Montreal's Jean Fortier, threw his hat in the ring earlier this week.
Municipal election day in Montreal, as it will be everywhere in Quebec, is Nov. 5.
