Parents looking for somewhere to send their child to daycare may soon catch a break.
Family Minister Luc Fortin announced following a recent review the government will be creating 2,000 new subsidized daycare spaces in areas where they are needed most.
The breakdown will include 1,400 spaces where the government has deemed there to be a shortage, 200 in disadvantaged areas and the remaining 400 will go to regions recommended by an advisory committee.
The initiative could also speed up the creation of 3,800 spaces in early childhood centres that were planned to arrive by 2020-21.
Fortin said the costs for the spaces were accounted in the most recent budget.
