A month away from Christmas, and a year away from an election, Carlos Leitão played Santa Claus this afternoon.
There were plenty of goodies on offer as the finance minister gave his government's fall economic update.
Among the highlights — beginning this year, the average middle-class Quebecer can expect tax reductions that could go as high as $278 per person.
Also this year, families with two children in a household with a combined income of $90,000 can expect tax relief amounting to $1,200.
Meanwhile, if you have school-aged children, you'll be entitled to a $100 payout for each child, every July, ostensibly to allow parents to buy school supplies.
In all, the Couillard Liberals are offering $2.3 billion worth of tax relief.
There'll also be more spending on things like health, education.
Leitão credited some of the Quebec Liberals' cost-cutting measures in years past, as well as stronger economic growth, for the tax relief now.
