Montreal police are calling on anyone who believes they may have been victimized by a 43-year-old man suspected of posing as a construction worker to enter office buildings in the west end and West Island, and stealing people's belongings.
Police believe Martin Marchand pulled this scheme off at several office buildings in downtown Montreal, Dollard des Ormeaux, St. Laurent, Dorval, Pointe Claire and Nuns' Island between June 5 and Sept. 5.
They say he targeted buildings undergoing renovations — he'd show up wearing a hardhat, pretending to do inspection work for a ventilation company. Once he had access to the building's office area, he'd steal just about anything he could find there — cash, credit cards, wallets, jewelry, electronics, among other things.
Hew would often show up with an accomplice.
Police say he was seen behind the wheel of several vehicles, including a late-model Dodge Durango, a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and a 2015 white Chevrolet Corvette.
Police caught up with Marchand and his suspected accomplice, a 41-year-old woman, on Tuesday of last week.
They believe they may have targeted more places.
If you've seen this man at your office building, you're being asked to come forward to tell your story — by visiting your local police station, calling 9-1-1, or calling the confidential Info-Crime line at 514-393-1133.
