A plan to reduce access to Nuns' Island this fall to just one route has some residents on the island concerned.
The consortium building the new Champlain bridge says it needs to close Rene-Levesque Blvd on the island, to make room for heavy equipment needed in the construction.
Residents say there has to be a better solution to keep traffic moving and to allow emergency services access to the area.
Currently, there are two access routes to Nuns’ Island via Highway 15 and the Bonaventure Expressway.
Residents tell CTV Montreal they're worried about the loss of one route and the ability to directly access Highway 15.
"It's going to be a disaster," says one man.
"They're going to have to come up with something 'cause it's not feasible that everyone is going to have to go through Bonaventure," says another resident.
The borough and the City of Montreal have commissioned another study to try and find an alternative.
One option being considered is appealing to the consortium to leave one lane open on Rene-Levesque Blvd. to keep traffic moving to and from the island.
