The next phase of Turcot interchange rebuild gets underway Monday night, and it's expected to cause real trouble for nearly 22,000 motorists.
Transport Quebec will be closing the ramp connecting Highway 15 north to Highway 20 west at 10:30 P.M. until at least November.
Crews will spend the next couple of months tearing down the current structure and building a brand new ramp.
Drivers will have a couple options available for detours.
Likely to be the most used, motorists will continue north on the Decarie Expressway, exit at Cote St. Luc Rd. and loop back around onto the southbound side and connect to Highway 20 west. Transport Quebec has advised against using the option because the intersection is already congested during a normal rush hour, additional traffic would bring it to a halt.
A second option would be to exit at De la Verendrye Blvd., then use St. Patrick St. west, Monk Blvd., and Notre Dame St. west to merge onto the 20 west.
The third detour available it the lengthiest, but will likely be the least congested as it involves South Shore motorists avoiding the Champlain Bridge all together.
Drivers could also take Highway 30 into Vaudreuil-Dorion and again loop back around in order to reach the western tip of the island or airport.
Transport Quebec is advising people to carpool, use public transit or change their daily habits to avoid the potential traffic nightmare.
If you're on the South Shore and are thinking of skipping the Champlain Bridge and possibly using the Mercier Bridge to get to the West Island, be warned, construction on Route 138 is also expected to cause serious delays. So much so, the RTM is making the Candiac line free to use.
That bit of construction is expected to last until at least next weekend.
