Quebec has launched a plan for more grocery stores to help more people who use food banks.
A grant of nearly $400,000 by Recyc-Quebec will now mean a pilot project will be expanded to more than 600 supermarkets donating unused food within 3 years compared to 177.
"There is enough food in the province of Quebec to feed everybody who needs food. Our challenge has always been around management and distribution", said Sam Watts, CEO of the Welcome Hall Mission.
An additional 175 supermarkets with Provigo, Maxi, Metro, Super C and IGA are expected to be tacked on to the list by 2018.
Economy Minister Dominique Anglade and Public Health Minister Lucie Charlebois announced the expansion.
