While the weather outside may not be frightful, your fire may still be delightful, Montreal city hall wants you to know, it's getting ready for this winter's snow.
On average Montreal gets 190 centimeters of snow per year and with forecasters predicting a "classic Canadian winter" mechanics and crews are working around the clock at Montreal's 30 garages to ensure municipal snow removal vehicles are ready to go for whenever Mother Nature decides to Let it Snow.
"When we go for a snow removal operation we will have on the ground at least 3,000 employees who will work with us to make sure we will retrieve the snow as soon as we can" city spokesperson Philippe Sabourin told CTV Montreal.
Sabourin said from major snowfalls to ice storms and the classic freeze-thaw cycle, city workers will be ready with their plows to clear streets and sidewalks and spread salt and gravel.
Snow clearing operations will get underway as soon as 2.5 centimeters of snow falls and removal operations begin once 10 centimeters of snow is dumped on the city.
"By the way for 20 centimeters of snow it will take four days for the city to retrieve all the snow. And in a garage like Dickson we will have enough mechanics, employees to make sure we will be able to repair the engines if it's necessary," said Sabourin.
This year the city has budgeted $158 million for snow removal and clearing.
