Montreal's public security commission heard from police officers and citizens Tuesday about the controversial use of Tasers, rubber bullets and other non-lethal weapons.
Police confirm they want to go from 1 Taser per police station to 1 per pair of patrollers on the force, with as many as 200 by 2020.
Opponents, including the Black Coalition of Quebec, say they're concerned this will increase cases of police brutality and point out that several people have died after being struck by a Taser.
City Councillor Marvin Rotrand is among those opposing more Tasers.
"It creates lazy policing, that police abuse the instruments that are in front of them. It becomes too easy to use this," says Rotrand.
