Mayor Valerie Plante has laid out her economic development plan for Montreal.
She addressed the business community Thursday.
There's a new agreement between Montreal and the province, there’s more money to work with and more autonomy over how it’s spent.
She announced $360 million will be invested over the next five years to speed up economic growth.
"That was my message today; I hear you, I hear the business sector, I hear all the people that are concerned about the economic health of Montreal and I'm on board", said Plante.
Plante said an announcement is scheduled for next week to make Sainte-Catherine Street a shopping destination.
Montreal has been doing well economically for some time. But when Plante was elected last fall, there were concerns her administration would put the brakes on growth.
"That was the main question after the election: will we be able to keep the momentum?", said Michel Leblanc from Montreal’s Chamber of Commerce.
"And at this stage, six months after the election, confidence is very high, investment is very high, and unemployment is very low", he added.
