Some flyers being distributed at McGill University with anti-gay and anti-Muslim logos and the phrase 'make Canada great again' are causing concern at the school.
The flyers, featuring a maple leaf in the background, read, "Tired of anti-white propaganda? It's time to make Canada great again. Brought to you by your local deplorables."
At the bottom, they include web addresses of white supremacist groups.
The flyers were posted earlier this week on school grounds, and in the adjacent Milton Park neighborhood. Most of them have been taken down, though the pictures are still making the rounds of social media.
It's not clear who the 'local deplorables' are, but the references to Donald Trump and the recent U.S. election campaign are unmistakable.
Fo Niemi, the director of the Centre for Research-Action on Race Relations (CRARR), said since Trump's surprise election win, he's seen an increase in the number of people coming forward with stories of being verbally attacked.
“For example, a person who is going to a grocery store and coming across someone who says, 'You people, you take up too much space, you should go back where you came from' and they're saying that without any kind of embarrassment or apology afterwards,” Niemi says.
