The Jewish General Hospital has just received its largest donation ever — $26 million.
The money from the Azrieli Foundation, will support the hospital's cardiology department — specifically toward supporting and bolstering their clinical research and teaching in aging and cardiosacular diseases.
Dr. Lawrence Rudksi with the Azrieli Heart Centre says this money will make what they do available to more people.
"We can do things, and we can do things quickly, that a lot of other specialists can't do," Dr. Rudski says. "Someone comes in with a heart attack, 60 minutes later, we're opening their artery. These are things people would have died from 20 years ago."
Officials at the Jewish are calling this a historic moment — the largest donation it has ever received.
