A couple from Cambridge Ontario now has one of the best "you'll never believe what happened when we got married..." stories.
On Friday, Clayton and Brittany Cook tied the knot before heading to a nearby park for a wedding photo shoot before the reception.
The couple set themselves up on a park bridge as their photographer started snapping pictures. While the bride was getting some solo shots done the groom found himself in the river.
"I look over and I see Clay in the water and I think, what is he doing?" Brittany told CTV Kitchener.
In a matter of moments, a small boy fell into the water and was unable to keep himself up.
"His face was underwater and he was fighting, like he was really fighting," Clayton said.
The groom grabbed the boy by the arm and pulled him out of the water. Photographer Darren Hatt captured the rescue.
"It was a commendable thing that he did and he sprung into action incredibly quick," Hatt said. "Almost as soon as I realized what was going on, he had already saved the day."
The couple said it appeared the boy had been pushed into the water by a pair of children who were also playing in the park. Not long after being pulled from the water an older sibling showed up and took the boy home.
"That's Clay, like that's Clay to me, it's something he would just instinctively do" Brittany said. "It was like fate almost, we were meant to be there."
