Public Security Minister Martin Coiteux visited Ste. Therese Friday afternoon to tell flood victims all over the province that the government will help.
Coiteux said city officials will be providing information about how flood victims could be compensated by the province.
“They will have all the information from our officials of the ministry of public security of what they can ask in terms of financial help,” he said.
A number of Quebec regions are dealing with spring flooding.
Dozens of homes, mainly in Ste Therese, have been evacuated in the lower Laurentians.
There's been flooding as well in Blainville and Rosemere.
CTV's Rob Lurie reported many homes had 2 feet of water and the situation was worsening, leading to "a terrible mess and a disgusting cleanup".
"It's the result of a perfect storm for flooding. Last night, (Thursday), the sewers were barely able to handle all the heavy rain and melting snow, but then the Rivieres des Chiens here burst its banks and it was too much", said Lurie.
The Riviere aux Chiens runs through Rosemere into the Mille Iles River.
"It's hell... it's hell, but you can't do nothing about it, it's mother nature", one person told CTV.
"Water is continuing to rise in the area and we just evacuated six people from a building," said Ste. Therese Fire Operations Chief Mathieu Lacombe.
"At least 35 houses have been evacuated by firefighters."
Officials have been closely monitoring half a dozen other rivers where the water is rising to dangerous levels.
Also, some residents along Stream Ave. in Dorval have been using pumps to keep the rain water out.
Homeowners on the street might form a group to ask the city for help dealing with the problem.
