The former Montreal police officer known as Officer 728 is back before the Quebec Police Ethics Commission accused of excessive force and other breaches of the police ethics code.
Stéfanie Trudeau and her ex-partner, Constantinos Samaras are accused in connection with an alleged incident in May 2012 in the Plateau Mont-Royal.
Julian Menezes, now 35, testified today that he, his girlfriend and their friend were heading home from a wedding when they spotted Trudeau and Samaras ticketing a young cyclist.
Menezes testified the cyclist was sporting a red square, the symbol of the student protest movement at the time. Menezes testified Trudeau referred to it while giving the ticket.
Menezes testified they were there to support the student but that he was treated abusively by Trudeau and roughly arrested by the two officers.
Menezes testified that at one point, Trudeau referred to him as a f***ing Indian.
Menezes testified he was taken for a so-called "starlight tour" - driven a long distance away and dumped off in an unfamiliar area.
Menezes was given a ticket for obstruction (which was eventually thrown out).
Menezes testified Trudeau was driving erratically and slamming on the brakes so that his face would bang against the divider between the front and back seats. He said he suffered face bruises as well as a twisted ankle during the arrest.
Trudeau looked both bored and irritated during Menezes' testimony. At one point, she leaned back, folded her arms across her chest and slightly smiled.
Another time during cross examination, Menezes asked the commissioner presiding over the hearing to ask Trudeau to stop staring at him and intimidating him.
Trudeau's lawyer Giuseppe Battista suggested Menezes misunderstood certain statements that day in 2012 and suggested a few drinks from the wedding may have had something to do with it as well. Battista suggested Trudeau may have said to Menezes, "Are you not an Indian?"
Battista also suggested Menezes refused to cooperate and identify himself when asked by the officers.
The hearing continues tomorrow.
Samaras will have a separate hearing for his role in the alleged affair including failing to intervene.
Trudeau was found guilty last year of assaulting a Plateau resident and using excessive force in October 2012 during a heavy-handed arrest caught on video that went viral.
Trudeau was given a one year suspended sentence and 60 hours of community service but she is appealing the conviction.
Trudeau left the police force in 2015.
