A constitutional challenge has been filed against Bill 62, Quebec's contentious face-covering law.
Two groups, the National Council of Canadian Muslims and the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, filed their challenge in Quebec Superior Court on Tuesday.
The Quebec Liberals passed Bill 62 on Oct. 18. Critics suggest the law is a blatant violation of Charter rights, and smacks of discrimination against Muslims.
A week later, Quebec's justice minister Stéphanie Vallée attempted to clarify some of the rules, suggesting women wearing niqabs or burkas can ride the bus — but would have to uncover if they needed to show identification.
