Montreal firefighters were kept busy Sunday evening after three residential fires brokes out within 50 minutes of each other.
A backyard fire in Verdun, called in around 6:05 p.m. on Evelyn St., spread inside and seaped to the adjacent buildings on either side.
Four apartments were evacuated; the occupants were unable to return home and were put in the care of the Red Cross.
No one was injured, but the fire spread quickly and did an estimated $100,000 worth of damage, Montreal Fire chief of operations Benoit Manuel told CJAD 800 News.
Minutes after the first blaze, another was reported in Pointe-Claire. Manuel said it is believed flames ignited in a flower pot on the terrasse of the 14-storey building, where a cigarette was not properly put out.
The entire building was evacuated with no injuries. Damage to the roof is described as extensive.
Only 10 minutes later, a third fire was called in from a home on 17th Ave. between Victoria and Remembrance Sts. in Lachine.
The fire began on a stove in a basement kitchen around 6:55 p.m. Manuel said the occupant was evacuated. A man was treated for hand and arm lacerations, according to Maneul, after it is believed he broke a window to rescue two cats inside.
