The family of a cyclist killed on Mount Royal returned to the place where Clement Ouimet was fatally hit a week and a half ago, holding a memorial on Sunday in the young man's honour and to say goodbye.
"[The family is] deeply touched by those manifestations of support," Family friend and spokesperson Jean-Paul Menard told reporters. "They wish to express their warmest and deepest thanks for all the sympathy that has been expressed. There's no answer to what has happened but they really feel that sympathy."
Ouimet was killed while cycling down Camillien-Houde Way on Oct. 4. He was struck by an SUV ahead of him that made an illegal U-turn just south of the belvedere lookout.
New safety barriers, signs and panels have been installed since the fatal collision.
Despite their presence, drivers are still regularly seen pulling the same illegal turn that led to Ouimet's death.
